Do I Change How I Charge My Fee for Different Event Services?
Thursday Jun 09, 2022
Thursday Jun 09, 2022
In episode 8,, host May Yeo Silvers taught listeners how to appropriately price their hourly rate. But many people still beg the question: should I change how I charge for different event services? In today’s episode, May answers this commonly asked question.
Whether you are an event planner, lawyer, photographer, or any other type of business owner, the best way to charge for your services is to figure out your hourly rate. If you plan to travel for an event, you will still charge your hourly rate. The only difference is that you would ask your clients to reimburse you for any additional money you have to spend to get there. At the end of the day no matter the type of service you are providing whether it be full service, partial service, or decorating, your hourly rate should account for any type of work you may have to do
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the difference between fees and expenses and why sticking to your hourly rate is the best way to charge your clients, regardless of the type of event.
Quotes
• “If you really have the passion and belief that what you do is going to make a difference in someone's life or event, you will show up for your business no matter how you feel.” (02:26-02:38)
• “Knowing your hourly rate is fundamental to how you should charge for all kinds of services.” (05:39-05:44)
• “You always use the same fundamental principle to charge for any type of events services you're providing.” (05:54-06:02)
• “A destination event is no different than a regular event. The only difference is you probably have to travel but the planning is still the same.” (09:36-09:48)
• “Expenses are expenses. Your fees are your fees. Expenses are not a profit, they are an expense that needs to be reimbursed.” (11:04-11:10)

The Danger of ”Normalizing” Success
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
When it comes to running a business, our society has normalized the concept of failure and glamorized the idea of success. While it is important to celebrate our success, there are many dangers in normalizing it too much. In today’s episode, host May Yeo Silvers discusses why normalizing success is just as dangerous as normalizing failure.
According to May, when we normalize our success we run the risk of becoming too content in our business and slowing down our progress. Rather than expecting success at every corner, it is important for every entrepreneur to understand that success will come and go. May explains that when we focus solely on success, we forget about how far we have come since the beginning. Even though success does feel good, it is never worth beating yourself up over when the “success” wasn’t what you expected.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the importance of celebrating your wins–no matter their size, being grateful to your progress, and how normalizing success can negatively affect your business.
Quotes
• “The danger of normalizing success is just as dangerous as normalizing failure.” (02:31-02:40 | May)
• “Normalizing success means you are so used to success, that when you're not getting success, you think that you are a failure.” (03:02-03:09 | May)
• “When you get to a point that you're cruising and you're so used to success, sometimes you tend to not expand yourself or evolve as much as you should.” (06:24-06:36 | May)
• “Sometimes in business, things don't always go up. Sometimes it's like a wave. It will go up and then it will sometimes come down.” (09:53-09:59 | May)
• “It is not a negative thing to normalize success. But it is a negative thing if you beat yourself up when success does not repeat itself the way you want it to.” (12:42-12:54 | May)

Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the important skills you need to be a successful event planner.

• “All I know about event planning is through my hands-on experience.” (03:36-03:38)
• “If you want to start your own event planning business, do you need to have certification? No, not at all.” (07:02-07:07)
• “The most important skills in growing a thriving business are understanding how to structure your business in the most effective manner. Understanding your worth. Understanding how much to charge. Understanding how to market yourself so that you are reaching your target audience. And also understanding the art of sales.”

When you first start a business, there is no doubt you are going to make mistakes along the way. However, there are certain things you can look out for. In today’s episode, host May Yeo Silvers shares her guest appearance on The Talk with Renee Dalo, another seasoned event planner, to discuss common mistakes new event planners make.
According to May, the first mistake she made was not understanding her numbers. While she had two clients off the bat, she spent all her time planning for them, and not planning for her future. It wasn’t until she completed both of those events, that she realized by not continuously growing her pipeline, she could not afford to do event planning full time. At the end of the day, starting a business is not easy. But with the right knowledge and mindset, you will evolve into the event planner you were meant to be.
Tune into this week’s episode of the The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to hear host May guest star on Renee Dalo’s podcast. Should You Educate Your Potential Clients On How Much Things Cost?
Thursday May 12, 2022
Thursday May 12, 2022
Do you find that most potential clients have champagne tastes on a beer budget? According to host May Yeo Silvers, this is because most people don’t know how much things really cost! In today’s episode, May shares tips on how to have tactful conversations with clients about the reality of cost.
While it is important to be honest with your clients about how much things cost, you have to be careful in your approach. If they come to you with high hopes of what they want, but you only focus on cost, you might end up crushing their dreams. Rather than approaching them as a teacher, you need to focus on being more of a consultant. When you can exercise a level of compassion, you are more likely to find a solution that makes both you and your clients happy.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the importance of showing empathy and asking the right questions so you can better educate your clients and deliver events that fit both their budget and vision.

• “Potential clients have no idea how much things cost. This is why they have champagne tastes and beer budgets.” (01:14-01:23)
• “In a sales conversation, your job is to be a consultant.” (04:58-05:02)
• “You have to exercise some compassion and empathy when you share how much things costs.” (05:37-05:42)
• “Your clients are not event planners. It is not their responsibility to know how much things cost. It is your responsibility to find a solution and deliver an event that they want that also goes with their budget.” (06:04-06:20)

How Having an Email Campaign Can Help Your Business
Thursday May 05, 2022
Thursday May 05, 2022
With all of the networking that you are doing for your business, it is important to keep your network engaged with relevant content. While not everyone will be interested in the same content, there is an easy way to target specific groups of people. According to host May Yeo Silvers, creating an email campaign is one of the best tools you can use to help your business grow.
While social media marketing is one of the most effective ways to market your business, only 5% of your followers will see your content. When you are growing your business, it is critical that you are reaching as many people as you can. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is through email marketing. May explains that by consistently sending emails with good content to your targeted audience, it will help you increase your brand visibility, convert more buy-later people, and increase your overall sales.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the purpose of email campaigns and how to build an email list that help grow your business.
Quotes
• “Particular groups of people require different types of content.” (02:12-02:16)
• “An email campaign is a software that you use where you can send out emails automatically. You first draft the content of the email, and then you direct the software on who to send this content to.” (02:34-02:58)
• “Email campaign is a sales activity that require the least amount of your time.” (03:48-03:52)
• “Your email becomes like a search engine optimization, where you tell the people that you're sending the email to where you want them to go to.” (08:00-08:09)
• “Another purpose of email campaign is to continue nurturing your buy-later people.” (11:14-11:18)
• “Facebook and Instagram show only 5% of your followers what you post. So we need to catch them from different avenues, and email is one of them.” (12:15-12:25)

Thursday Apr 28, 2022
Thursday Apr 28, 2022
Do you struggle to turn your leads into business? In today’s episode, host May Yeo Silvers gives listeners a step-by-step plan on how to convert cold leads into paying customers.
According to May, the most important thing to know about sales is that it is a long game, so it is important to strategically approach your potential buyers. The best way to do this is by scouting social media for clients you’d like to work with, and slowly begin to engage with them. Find out what they like, what they need, and how you can answer questions and provide solutions to their problems. Once they have started to engage back, you will know it is time to offer your services.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the importance of utilizing social media to identify your ideal clients so you can build your network and gradually turn leads into real business.

• “When it comes to building your sales pipeline, you cannot go in so hot on the first try. You need to warm people up and play it slow.” (08:02-08:15)
• “If a potential client hasn’t shown any form of engagement, then don’t ask them to get on a call with you when you send them a DM because they’re still on the fence.” (17:30-17:37)
• “It can take up to two months to get someone to get on a call with you. But you know that when they do, they are no longer cold…they're actually quite warm.” (19:23-19:35)
• “At the end of the day, business is really not that complex. It's about showing up, loving what you do, and then the people will come.” (23:16-23:26)
