For many event planners, the motivation to create beautiful events for everyone often overrides the need for financial success. How to Handle Price Objection
Thursday Dec 09, 2021
Thursday Dec 09, 2021
When it comes to running a business, most event planners struggle the most with discussing money. In today’s episode, May discusses how to properly handle price objections without losing business.
When you take a sales call, the most important thing to do is ask qualifying questions. This not only allows you to get a better understanding of what the client wants, but it also reveals any objections they might have. Rather than being intimidated about discussing money, May tells listeners to be upfront about how much things cost. When the potential client has a realistic idea of the amount they will have to spend, they will be less likely to object to your fees.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the importance of pre-work, educating your clients about cost, and how to implement a strong objection strategy that attracts your target client.
Quotes
• “The more pre-work you do in your discovery call, the probability of you getting a price objection gets lower and lower.” (02:06-02:19)
• “It’s almost impossible to overcome a price objection if you're not talking to your ideal client.” (02:36-02:46)
• “When you're talking to your potential client you should already have an idea of what they want to spend on an event.” (05:52-06:01)
• “We always want to empathize, listen and be inquisitive.” (14:23-14:29)
• “You want the client to tell you how they would feel if they did the event themselves and how they would feel if you worked it for them.” (23:16-23:24)
• “You cannot go into a sales call with a scarcity mindset. If you do, you will not ask the right type of questions because you’re afraid to lose the sale.” (25:22-25:32)

3 Questions to Ask to Qualify Your Leads
Thursday Dec 02, 2021
Thursday Dec 02, 2021
Have you ever wondered why your leads aren’t calling you back? In today’s episode, host May Yeo Silvers discusses the three most important questions you need to ask to better qualify and convert your leads into business.
According to May, when a lead doesn’t call you back, it isn’t because you did something wrong. Instead, it is most likely because they are not qualified. Rather than jumping immediately into a conversation about your services, May suggests starting with qualifying questions. This will help you determine whether or not the lead is even worth your time. When asking questions to potential clients, May explains that you need to understand three things: what they need help with, how much effort they’ve put into their research, and how soon they need your services. By gathering this information up front, you will not only save yourself time, but you will also be able to protect the price of your services.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn more about the importance of being assertive and asking the right questions, so you can keep your prices and attract ideal customers.
Quotes
• “Don't waste your time and energy fretting over somebody who's not getting back to you.” (04:39-04:44)
• “A lot of times when a lead ghosts you or doesn’t get back to you, it’s because they may not be a qualified lead.” (04:51-05:04)
• “You want to find out what challenges your potential clients are facing right now when they are planning their events.” (07:07-07:15)
• “If they have mentioned to you that they have already spent time, money, and resources talking to people or doing research themselves, that means they can't do it themselves, and they need help.” (07:56-08:10)
• “It is not usually a price objection, it’s an urgency objection.” (08:54-08:59)
• “You only want to provide a ‘one problem, one solution.’ You don't want to talk about anything more than that because a confused mind says no. If you give them too much information they might have to go back and think about what you just said to them. So keep it very simple.” (11:26-11:43)
• “Don't be afraid to be assertive because the last thing you want to do is waste time talking to a potential client that's not even your ideal client.” (13:44-13:51)

Thursday Nov 25, 2021
Thursday Nov 25, 2021
Do you ever let limiting beliefs get in the way of your success? In today’s episode, host May Yeo Silvers discusses how to overcome imposter syndrome to become the best event planner you can be.
When it comes to dealing with imposter syndrome, the most important thing to do is learn how to love yourself. If you do not love yourself and what you do, you cannot serve others. Rather than comparing yourself to others, focus on what drives your own success. When you are able to let your true personality shine, you will find fulfillment and attract the right customers for you and your business.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ to learn how to let go of what you think success looks like and allow yourself to operate in your own reality, so you can be the unstoppable eventrepreneur you’ve always dreamed of being.

How to Price Your Fees
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
When it comes to starting an event planning business, every eventrepreneur is dying to know the secret to pricing. According to host May Yeo Silvers, the biggest mistake new event planners make is thinking they need to lower their prices to get business. In today’s episode, May breaks down how to calculate a price that makes both you and your clients happy.
The first thing any business owner needs to understand is their monthly cost of operation. While variable costs may fluctuate, May explains that fixed costs are constant regardless of whether or not you have active business. Once you have established how much money you need to run events and stay in business, you can calculate your hourly rate. While you may initially feel guilty asking for more money, honor yourself and never let your hourly rate depreciate. After all, we are here to make a profit.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur™ for a brief overview of pricing. Learn why you shouldn’t base your fees off of your competitors’ rates, the differences between fixed and variable costs, and how to properly calculate an hourly rate that upholds the value of your business.
Quotes
• “Your operation costs are divided into two categories. One is your fixed cost and the other is your variable cost.” (07:11-07:18)
• “I am an affiliate of HoneyBook because I am an educator and business coach. I get a 50% discount for anyone who uses my link. So, if you haven’t created an account with HoneyBook, you can use my link for 50% off the first year.” (09:43-10:05)
• “Your hourly-rate will change as your business changes.” (12:02-12:05)
• “On average, you should spend 70-80% on sales-generating activities. That could include visiting old clients or talking to potential clients. The rest of the time should be spent on client fulfillment, which is the actual planning itself.” (19:00-19:20)
• “We aren’t in the business to break even; we are in the business to make money.” (20:39-20:41)
• “We never want to depreciate our hourly rate.” (23:49-23:52)
• “I will probably organize a master class just to go over pricing, so you can walk away with a template that goes through the whole calculation again.” (25:06-25:22)

Is There Really Too Much Competition?
Thursday Nov 11, 2021
Thursday Nov 11, 2021
According to host May Yeo Silvers, one of the main reasons that many eventrepreneurs get discouraged from entering the market is because they believe there is too much competition. While there are many people who run successful event planning businesses, May explains that the only competition you need to worry about is yourself.
In the event planning business, competition is actually a positive because it proves there is a demand for event planning services. Entering into a market with no competition would require you to be the industry pioneer; and while you would initially get all the business, May explains that competition is always inevitable. That is why there is no reason to become discouraged by the success of others. If you focus on the growth and development of your business, you will see results.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur Podcast™ to learn how your business can thrive even in an industry full of competitors.
Quotes
• “When there's no competition, it means there's not enough demand.” (01:35-01:40)
• “In the events field, competition is great. There are a lot of people who require event services and that's why there's a lot of people who are providing event services.” (01:50-02:05)
• “You never want to go into a business where there is no competition.” (02:14-02:19)
• “You cannot compare your progress to your competition because everybody is different.” (04:50-04:57)
• “The person who can play the game the longest, provide nurturing content, and constantly be at the forefront of the potential buyer’s mind will be the one who's going to get all the business.” (09:42-09:56)
• “The competition is you, not everybody else.” (10:01-10:04)

Rookie Mistakes to Avoid When Starting Your Business
Thursday Nov 04, 2021
Thursday Nov 04, 2021
Have you recently started an event planning business and are wondering why you aren’t getting the results you anticipated? In today’s episode, host May Yeo Silvers discusses three rookie mistakes every entrepreneur needs to avoid when starting a business.
First and foremost, it is crucial that you have a strong marketing plan in place, if people can’t find you, they can’t pay you. May tells listeners to put in consistent effort on marketing and find any opportunity to talk about your business. While generating leads should be one of your primary focuses, it is equally as important to understand your numbers. You need to know your prices and how much profit you need to generate in order to stay in business. But above all else, the most important aspect of running any business is having the right mindset. May explains that entrepreneurship can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. At the end of the day, it comes down to your perspective and how you choose to approach hardships.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur Podcast™ to learn what mistakes every new entrepreneur needs to avoid in order to build a successful and profitable event planning business.
Quotes
• “If you're not marketing yourself consistently, how will people find you? They won’t. They don't even know that you have a business. If they can't find you, they can't pay you. It’s that simple.” (02:24-02:40)
• “Whenever there's an opportunity that you can talk about your business, you need to be talking about your business.” (04:05-04:12)
• “Consistent effort equals consistent results. Inconsistent efforts equals inconsistent results. Zero efforts equals zero results.” (05:00-05:10)
• “You want money in your pocket? Then you better start understanding your numbers. You better start understanding how much you need to be charging, how much money you should be bringing in, how much money you should be paying out, and how much profit you have.” (09:34-09:50)
• “The downfall for 99% of the event planners out there who start a business and then decide to shut down is they are not prepared for the mental toughness that is required to run a business.” (10:09-10:21)
• “Running a business can be as easy as you want it to be and can be as difficult as you want it to be. It's all a matter of perspective.” (11:50-11:59)

Is Fear Stopping Your Growth in Life and in Business?
Thursday Oct 28, 2021
Thursday Oct 28, 2021
“If fear is not serving you, why are you continuing to let it stop you from living your best life?” asks host May Yeo Silver. On today’s episode, May offers tips on how to take control of your business and stop living in fear.
According to May, the foundation of fear is failure. Between personal experiences and observations of others, too many adults are conditioned to assume that they will fail. Even though failure is a natural part of life, May explains that it doesn’t need to be detrimental to your success. Rather than dwelling on the possibility of failure, May consistently places herself in uncomfortable situations. By doing so, May has become comfortable with her failures and has transformed them into the catalysts for her success.
At the end of the day, you are the only one in control of your success. Tune into this week’s episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur Podcast™ to learn how to accept failures, overcome fears, and take inspired actions that will build your business.
Quotes
• “As adults, we have been so tainted by our previous experience and also our observations of what's happening in the world that we naturally assume that it's going to happen to us as well.” (01:18-01:33)
• “The reason why people have fear is because the common denominator is failure.” (01:45-01:53)
• “Understand that living in the past is not going to serve you in the future.” (05:51-05:55)
• “We are all programmed differently, so don't assume someone's failure is going to be the same as yours.” (07:42-07:47)
• “If you know your ‘why,’ you will always take inspired actions.” (09:48-09:51)
• “The more I expose myself to the unknown and get used to being very uncomfortable, I get used to being comfortable being uncomfortable, and fear is no longer a factor.” (12:42-12:54)
• “If fear is not serving you, why are you continuing to let it stop you from living your best life?” (13:12-13:24)
